The Basement Teen Center is a program under the direction of the Washington County Youth Service Bureau/ Boys & Girls Club. Located in Montpelier, VT, the Basement is a drop-in space for youth ages 13 to 18 that is a substance free, supervised place for teens to hang out with friends and provides leadership opportunities, and activities that encourage positive growth. With a full kitchen where young people can help themselves to food at any time, the Basement serves a free meal every Friday, prepared by volunteers from the New England Culinary Institute (NECI).
Teen Council is the guiding force behind all decisions at the Basement Teen Center, including everything from possible funding opportunities to future programming. To learn more about Teen Council, click here.
The Washington County Youth Service Bureau’s mission is to provide a wide range of innovative and effective programs that empower and enrich the lives of youth and families in Washington County, and to provide leadership and support to other youth programs throughout Vermont. The Washington County Youth Service Bureau/ Boys & Girls Club is a private, non-profit organization that has assisted young people and families since 1974. Our work is supported by private, local, state, and federal grants, Medicaid and other insurance, donations, and fundraising. Most of our services are free. For those requiring payment, we accept most insurances and Medicaid, and offer a sliding fee scale. No one is turned away because they cannot pay.
